Should we buy 10kt, 14kt or 18kt, this is a question I’ve heard nearly everyday during my career. Fine gold is 24kt; 14kt is 14 parts gold and 10 parts alloy to strengthen. 14 divided by 24 is .583; you’ll see a 585 stamp on jewelry sometimes. There’s a small difference in how it wears, mostly depends on the alloy used to strengthen the jewelry. In conclusion, if you love the jewelry don’t let the gold stamp keep you from getting it.
